Gallery Exhibition: Takehiko Murata

Discover Tokyo through the eyes of Takehiko Murata at the Frederick Harris Gallery this March.

Murata transforms everyday scenes from the city's bustling streets into unique works of art through what he calls a "bug output."

Born in Kanagawa, he spent his early years in Belgium, France and Germany before graduating from Tama Art University's graphic design program. His unique style has earned him prestigious prizes like the NY ADC Award in 2021.

From large-scale murals at Seibu Stadium to striking wall art at Shibuya Station, Murata's creations redefine urban art, uncovering the beauty of the ordinary.

Moment I realized I wanted to become an artist.
I attended a solo exhibition by Shinro Ohtake and was deeply struck by his paintings.

What I would tell my 20-year-old self.
To keep going without giving up!

My perfect creative environment.
A spacious area reminiscent of an abandoned factory, with high ceilings and the freedom to make a mess without fear of reproach.

Artist, living or dead, I’d most like to share a meal with.
Shinro Ohtake, Taro Okamoto, Andy Warhol and Kohei Nawa.
