Graphic Novel Workshop

Beloved children’s book author and illustrator Marissa Moss pitched her first story when she was just 9 years old.

The response wasn’t what she hoped for, but being spurned by a publisher only fueled her ambition.

More than three decades and 70-plus books later, the Amelia’s Notebook creator has become a favorite for her exploration of the world through child’s eyes. She also takes readers through history to uncover the world-changing contributions of women and minorities. Her latest notebook-style graphic novel is Talia’s Codebook for Mathletes, which has won a Mathical Book Prize for inspiring children to see math in the world around them.

Budding graphic novelists will have the chance to start their own memoir, non-fiction or fiction graphic novel using nothing but a ballpoint pen and paper (provided). While students will not be expected to finish their graphic novel within the hour, they will learn tips and tricks from a professional author and illustrator which will help them flesh out their ideas and hone their craft.
