The Frederick Harris Gallery invites Members to an evening of conversation with artist Bonnie Cherni over complimentary wine and canapés.
Epic Origami, Cherni’s company, captivates audiences with larger-than-life installations and innovative workshops, using various mediums like aluminum, copper and canvas.
The company seeks to promote origami as an art form, and its focus on animal and marine subjects puts a spotlight on endangered species.
Cherni’s passion for origami was sparked at 15, when she was inspired by a Japanese exchange student’s gift. Her passion grew when she discovered John Montroll’s origami books, which led her to deepen her study of the craft she describes as “magic in your hands.”
Epic Origami’s art has been featured at events, museums and publications that include the Waimea Ocean Film Festival, the Museum of Boulder and Ke Ola magazine.
Artworks are available for purchase through Member Services.
Moment I realized I wanted to become an artist.
I started folding things when I was young and became intrigued when I created my own animals and toys.
What I would tell my 20-year-old self.
Hope is the unknown.
My perfect creative environment.
Being surrounded by silence and paper to fold.
Artist, living or dead, I’d most like to share a meal with.
My mother.
